I Couldn't Be More Thankful

I just want to start with stating that I have always wanted a photography blog. This said, I have made a few, but they haven't really ever caught on and I always get behind. Hopefully this will work better attached to my website. Truth is though, I love reading blogs from photographers, it allows them to share images that are important to them without the intent to show them as art. After all, photographers just want to share the world through images. So I am going to try again. After lots of thought I have decided the style of blog I like: Full images intermixed with minimal words, with a song at the top you can play while you read.

I have a passion for photography, but also for the outdoors. I work as a guide for my university bringing fellow students out to some amazing places to share an experience. It provides a similar satisfaction for me that photography does. I get to inspire others, share some truly wild places with the world, and provide some sort of escape from the wild crazes of normal society.

These images are all but one of the groups (photo never taken) that I had the pleasure to join on an expedition with this Fall semester. If your reading this and were on one of these trips, I need to say thank you. Its hard for me to explain what these trips mean for me. It allows me to be free, and to explore new or familiar places. I get to build this incredible community in a matter of days, and while I may not see most of these people in the near future, or ever again for that matter, I am thankful for the few days we were able to bond.

River trips are the most rewarding for me. There are no distractions and not even a hint of a world outside of the canyon is present. No vans for me to drive around, no signs or information boards, and often times hardly another soul. I am thankful to have the ability to return to the canyon often. To remind myself there are parts of this world that humans somehow haven't damaged so much they are no longer wild places. These are the important places, where you are a visitor, a guest in a beautiful place. Every time our rafts float out of that canyon my mind is calm. It has been rejuvenated by waterfalls and immense red cliffs. I like to believe that these places will say as wild as they are, free from human impact forever. Deep down I know this is not true. However I am thankful to be able to experience it while it is wild, to take photographs to remind me that these places are beyond me. Most of all, thankful to be spending this time with such great people. These images are important to me, thank you.
